We chose to organize a trip to Kalavryta because, through our empowerment groups, we have realized that many refugees believe Greeks have always been “European,” with all the “advantages” that come with being part of the European Union.

So, we decided to visit Kalavryta.

The museum staff guided us through the exhibition, and we warmly thank them — especially Mr. Dimos. Our students were deeply moved, and so was he. Different countries, yet so many shared experiences. The people of our country and those of the refugees have lived through common pain. As they looked at the photographs, some thought they were from Gaza or Syria…

After our visit, they created three drawings and left them at the Museum as a keepsake.

With our hearts full, we headed to the ski center. Many of our students saw snow for the very first time. It was pure excitement!

We then visited the Cave of the Lakes — the magic of nature unfolding before us.

We returned with full hearts. The refugees felt closer to the Greeks — and vice versa. At the same time, they experienced Greece in a way they had not been able to before, as daily challenges and difficulties had never given them that opportunity.
